Joan Thomas (violin)
I have enjoyed and developed a love for music for as long as I can remember. My dad, who had been a violinist
himself, thought I should start piano lessons at a young age, and I went on to achieve grade 8 aged 17.
My real love has been for the violin after beginning lessons at school and going on to achieve grade 8 violin
and grade 7 viola, both with merit aged 16. My love for orchestral playing developed when my violin teacher
suggested that I audition for the Cornwall Youth Orchestra at the age of 11.
Having chosen not to pursue a career in music I have been actively involved in various orchestras and played
for numerous choral societies and shows. I have played in and managed a string quartet providing music for
weddings and special occasions throughout Cornwall and Devon.
Currently, I play with Plymouth Symphony Orchestra and the St Mewan Sinfonia as well as the Corineus
String Quartet.
